Absolutism is a form of government in which there is a ruler who has all power and control over the people.
2) Explain the justification for absolutism referred to as the 'divine right of kings'.
The divine right of kings means that the power given to a king is inalienable. The king was born with this power because he was born into this position.
3) List the causes of the rise of Absolutism in Europe.
The people needed a strong leader after the 14th century, when the Protestant Revolution had made church influence weak. Also, in the 15th century, merchants brought wealth and prosperity. A strong, controlling leader was needed to control and sustain this wealth.
4) In your opinion, is absolutism a good way to rule? Can you think of a situation where it might be a positive thing?
I do not think that absolutism is a good way to rule, because the entire affairs of a nation should not placed upon one person. Though decisions can be made more quickly and efficiently, the people do not have their say in how the government will affect their lives. Also, it is highly likely that this ruler will abuse their power and make decisions that do not benefit the entire population.
Why have people decided to Occupy Wall Street, and other financial areas in major cities the world over?
Common public, the people, are tired of having their wealth controlled by a small group of people, the 1%. They do not have the government on their side to voice these complaints, so they are protesting out on Wall Street. They demand that steps need to be taken to make sure that the majority of people, the 99%, are getting financial equality with the small group of people controlling most of the wealth.
Who might oppose those who are occupying Wall Street or demonstrating? Why are they opposing them?
Those small group of people who are benefiting from this growing gap between the rich and the poor will obviously not like it when the middle class rises up to not only balance the economy, but make things fairly even (which, in the wealthy class's perspective, can only be a disadvantage). Also, politicians may oppose Wall Street revolts because they are being accused of not fairly voicing the common people in government, which can make them look bad, for they have not fulfilled their obligations as a representative of the people.
